Gotye ft. Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know – 5/5
Posted by labrynthmusic in 5s, Single Review on January 22, 2012
There has been some buzz building on this song as of late, so I decided to give it a listen. Totally addicted.
Gotye is an acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter who has been very successful in other parts of the world. Not so much in the US, but that is going to change with STIUTK. This song is just perfect on every level. Adele has pushed the pop music balance over to the HAC side, so the timing for this to be huge, is again… perfect.
It’s hard to write about something you find so flawless and perfect. I am usually able to find something wrong in a song. Something I wish could be changed. Not here. Its like Gotye combined everything good about music and combined it into a single song.
TL;DR: Biggest song of 2012?
Will I Am ft J Lo and Mick Jagger – T.H.E. – 1/5

Pop music right now is in a really good place. As you will see over the next week, a lot of really strong songs are getting released and a good number of them are diverting from the norms. This actually made it kind of hard to find something I truly hated. Then I remembered Will I Am had a new song. PROBLEM SOLVED!
As music slowly progresses away from mindless dance music, Will I Am seems determined to push everyone back a few years. Either evolve or just go away.
This song is terrible. Its just like everything else WIA has done in the past, except now it has JLO and Mick Jagger. JLO is unrecognizable and Mick is better served as the subject of today’s pop songs then actually performing them.
TL;DR: Some things never change.
Drake ft Rihanna – Take Care – 5/5

IM BACK!
So after an almost 6 month break from this blog, Ive decided to pick it back up. Enough music has accumulated that I think Ive got plenty to write about for awhile. Hope you guys stay tuned to everything and let me know what you think of the music that I post.
Heard this for the first time on the radio today, and was just blown away. The most amazing part is that I can still LOVE a Rihanna song despite the oversatuRIHation of pop music over the past few years. Seriously, she is on at least 2 songs on the radio at all times. Still, this song is just brilliant. The beat is infectious and Rihanna’s hook is gorgeous. Drake serves up some soft-voiced rap that works well for pop songs, but frankly I dont care whose album this song is on. Its a Rihanna song.
The only part I am not 100% sold on is the bridge. Its not terrible, but its just so out of place. If Drake is the third wheel to Rihanna and her awesomeness, the bridge is the third wheel’s weird little brother.
TL;DR: Music this good gives me reason to write this blog.
Bob Dylan – Hurricane – Album Track

This might be the most random post I’ve made, but today, I am addicted to this song, so here goes.
Released in 1975 by Bob Dylan, “Hurricane” is an amazing narrative song. It tells the story of a boxer who was wrongly convicted due to racial prejudice. Released 12 years before I was born, and I still can connect with it. Its over 8 minutes long and every second of it is pure ear-candy.
TL;DR: Don’t TL;DR the song, its worth every one of those 8 minutes.
